Do you remember the innocent question Virginia asked the editor of the New York Sun over 100 years ago? The holidays just wouldn't be the same without little Virginia's inquiry: "Dear Editor, I am eight years old. Some of my little friends say there is no Santa Claus. Papa says if you see it in the Sun, it's so. Please tell me the truth. Is there a Santa Claus?" His response? "Yes, Virginia, there is a Santa Claus!"
At 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, 28 students from the Elkins Middle School 8th grade choir and theatre troupe will perform "Yes Virginia: The Musical" in the cafeteria.
Under the direction of Ms. Danielle Riggins, the musical will follow Virginia as she embarks on a quest to discover the truth about Santa Claus after the school bully makes a hurtful claim.
Riggins said, "This musical inspires all of us to believe like a child again and realize seeing isn't always believing. I think this musical has something for everyone in the family to enjoy."
Featuring a cast and crew of 28 students and set and technical design by EMS art teacher Mr. Whitfield and his classes, the musical evokes the atmosphere and character of the late 1800s. Admission will be $3.
The cast and crew include: Madison Bowers, Cierra Bolen, Ashlee Bennett, Katlyn Smith, Athena Bodkin, Sydnie Tate, Alyssa Thompson, Camryn Zirbs, Jacob Earle, Kyatt Bailey, Bailey Topping, Megan Broschart, Miya Criss, Alyssa Fletcher, Andy Helmick, Morgan McCollam, Christine Zurbuch, Gabriel Buckley, Samantha Bullough, Virginia Hedrick, Jacinda Maranda, Matthew Nethken, Sierra Scott, Bailey Young, Jodi Burdette, Mckenzie Leary, Renae Lovett and Brittany Swiger.
