According to the Aztec calendar, the world will end this week. For the 20 children whose lives were stolen from them at the Sandy Hook Elementary School, that dire prophecy has already come to fruition, as it has for their grieving parents.
So very sadly, the nation we call home has become a purveyor of violence, both within our walls and outside our doorsteps. It manifests itself in broken relationships where children and women are most often its victims. We market it at great profit to "entertain" ourselves and our children while worshipping the myth of security it promises in a world where violence only begets more of the same.
A musician once wrote "Sometimes words can serve me well, sometimes words can go to hell for all that they mean." When it comes to the murder of innocent children - any innocent people, no matter where they may be - I find I am left without words; only a single question. How am I an accomplice to the horrors that now confront us with each passing day?
