Richard "Dean" Gray was born at Cameron Dec. 14, 1922 during the "Roaring Twenties." He is the youngest son of the late Iva Yocum Gray and Henry Thomas Gray.
When Gray was a young boy, his family moved from Cameron to Jackson's Mill, where he grew up and graduated from Weston High School in 1941. His graduating class just celebrated its 70th reunion in September.
On May 10, 1942, he married the late Wanda Yvonne Montgomery. Together, they had four daughters, Patricia Burkett, Melinda Roy, Rebecca Long and Sheila Scott. "Pappy Dean" also has seven grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Mr. Gray served in the Merchant Marines in 1944 and 1945 during World War II. He was an accounts analyst for Consolidated Hope Natural Gas Co. in Clarksburg until his retirement in 1984.
As he was raising his family he enjoyed camping, boating and belonging to a travel trailer group traveling across the United States and Canada. In later years, his hobby became building and flying remote control airplanes. He still enjoys camping and traveling.
He resides in Beverly near his youngest daughter, Sheila. He is known by family and friends as "Pappy Dean."
Mr. Gray celebrated his 90th birthday with family and his dear friends, Ruth Finster and Diane and Mike Wimer, at the Christmas Show at American Mountain Theater in Elkins.
