December 31, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Brian Talbott and Karen Hill Johnson are the Barbour County Chamber of Commerce Members of the Month for November.

Talbott is the owner of Talbott Lumber Co. in Belington Industrial Park and Talbott Personal Care Home. Hill Johnson is a Belington attorney and sole practitioner at Hill Johnson Law, which she established in 2007.

Talbott is a Belington native and graduate of Philip Barbour High School. He holds a degree in management from Fairmont State College. He founded Talbott Personal Care Home with his wife, Rhonda, in Belington in 1998 and, in 2010, purchased the Talbott Lumber Co. where he became the third generation of Talbotts to own the company.

Talbott Lumber was founded in 1968 by his grandfather, Harold Talbott, who passed the business on to his son, Paul, Brian Talbott's father, who operated the firm from 1989 to 2009.

Talbott is the current president of the Barbour County Office for Economic Development and is a member of the board of directors of BC Band and Barbour County Youth Football.

After its founding, Talbott Lumber was a broker of green Appalachian hard woods until 1994 when the company purchased the Ware Planing Mill and began producing wood moulding and furniture components. Rebuilding after a disastrous fire in 2007, the company now produces high quality musical instrument parts for America's leading guitar manufactures, include Gibson and Santa Cruz.

"This new focus on a specialty product has allowed us to be successful during what has been a challenging time for the wood industry in West Virginia. Our goal is to be here another 44 years, creating jobs in Barbour County," he said.

Hill Johnson graduated from Philip Barbour High School and earned a Bachelor of Science in business management and marketing from Cooley Law School where she received Certificates of Merit in trial workshop and consumer law.

She is a member of the board of directors of Belington Community Medical Services Association. She graduated with cum laude honors,

Hill Johnson Law is staffed by paralegal Brittney Russell and office manager Linda Hill.

Hill Johnson works in the areas of child abuse and neglect, criminal defense, estate administration, will preparation and deed preparation.
