December 31, 2012
The Inter-Mountain

Pre-K Registration for Upshur County schools for the 2013-2014 will be Feb. 8 at the Buckhannon National Guard Armory.

Last names beginning with A-M will be registered from 8:30-11:30 a.m., and last names beginning with N-Z will be registered from 12:30-3:30 p.m.

There are approximately 187 Pre-K enrollment spaces in Upshur County for the 2013-2014 school year. Parents should enroll their child for the school in the attendance area in which they live. Upshur County Schools will work with the Pre-K centers to place children in your requested areas; however, Upshur County Schools cannot guarantee that requested locations will be granted. Before and after school child care will also be taken into consideration as placements are completed.

Children enrolling in Pre-K do not need to accompany their parents to registration unless they are doing the Well Child Physicals conducted by Community Care of West Virginia.

Current immunizations are required for all Pre-K children and will be reviewed at the time of registration.

Parents must bring student birth certificates and a copy of their child's record of immunizations for registrations. Pre-Kindergarten children are required to be immunized for diphtheria, pertussis, tetanus, polio, Hi B, Hepatitis B, prevnar, measles, mumps, rubella, Hepatitis B, and varicella.

Students will not be permitted to enter school in the fall without the certified birth certificate and required immunizations, unless they are properly exempted in accordance with state law. It will take approximately one hour to complete the registration process.

Parents/guardians must bring a certified copy of their child's birth certificate in order to register.

A certified copy of the birth certificate is one issued by the Bureau of Vital Registration of the child's state of birth. The address for West Virginia is: Vital Registration Office, Room 165, 350 Capitol Street, Charleston, WV 25301-3701.

Order forms are available at the schools and Board of Education office. The fee charged by the state of West Virginia is $12.

You must have the certified copy of the child's birth certificate in order to register.

If you don't have the correct birth certificate, don't delay; order today because birth certificates and immunization records must be presented to register for the 2013-2014 school year.

Please pay close attention to the following information regarding the Pre-K program and registration:

Pre-K is an optional program for children who will be four years old prior to September 1, 2013; unless they have been diagnosed as pre-school special needs children.

Upshur County Schools is not required to provide transportation for Pre-K children, but Upshur County Schools will attempt to provide transportation if the child is attending a center that is served by a bus that passes the child's home.

Parents who wish for their child to attend one of the Head Start sites will be asked to fill out an additional income form to assure proper qualification. (There will be some slots at the Head Start sites that are not income based).

All sites operate from Monday through Thursday, during normal school hours.

Parents wishing to have before and/or after school child care services will need to pay for this service if it is available.
