Elkins holds off Hampshire; EMS sweeps Wildcats

Ashley Simmons finished with a double-double to lead Elkins past Hampshire 46-44 Monday in non-conference action at Richard P. Simmons Memorial Gymnasium.

Simmons finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds and five steals for the Lady Tigers (4-8).

Brianna Swecker also had 12 points for Elkins.

Jaycie Saseen added six points for the Lady Tigers.

Michaela Lewis-Lambert had 13 rebounds for Elkins.

Emilynn Corbin had 21 points to lead Hampshire.

"This was a good win for us tonight," Elkins coach Nancy Lewis said. "This was a sectional opponent and was a good defensive game for us as well."

Elkins entertains Tucker County on Wednesday for a non-conference matchup.

Pendleton County 54, Union 25

MT STORM - Kaylee Edwards had 13 points to lead Pendleton?County past Union 54-25 Monday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Danielle Gray and Seara Mallow had 10 points each for the Lady Wildcats.

Montana Kitzmiller had 10 points to lead the Lady Tigers.

Pendleton?County hosts Petersburg on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

Pocahontas County 41, Tygarts Valley 39

DUNMORE - Heather Snead made a layup with one second left in the game to lead Pocahontas County past Tygarts Valley 41-39 Monday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Olivia Workman had 13 points to lead the Lady Warriors (10-4).

Melissa Murphy followed with seven points and eight rebounds for Pocahontas County.

Shanda Howell had a game-high 15 points and seven assists for the Lady Bulldogs (8-4)

.Paige Pritt followed with eight points and 12 rebounds for Tygarts Valley.

Emily Pingley had 10 rebounds for the Lady Bulldogs.

Pocahontas County travels to Moorefield on Friday at 7:30 p.m.

Tygarts Valley visits Moorefield on Wednesday for a conference matchup at 7:30 p.m.

Middle School Boys

Basketball

MILL?CREEK - The Tygarts Valley Middle School boys basketball team swept a pair of games from Kasson on Monday.

The Bulldogs won the varsity contest 40-37.

Rece Wamsley had 14 points, while Caleb Riggleman added 10 points for the Bulldogs (7-3).

Nate Brewer finished with 11 points, while Noah Price added eigiht points for Kasson.

Tygarts Valley won the junior varsity contest 37-14.

Brett Smith had 14 points, while Jake Tackett added eight points for the Bulldogs (4-5).

Tyler Channell and Hunter Freeman had four points each for Kasson.

Tygarts Valley host Philippi on Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Elkins Sweeps

Tucker Valley

PARSONS - The Elkins Middle School boys basketball team swept a pair of games from Tucker Valley on Monday.

The Hornets (7-4) won the varsity contest 48-43.

Blake Loftis had 15 points, while Kobe Haynes followed with 11 points for EMS.

Cory Gillespie chipped in with 10 points for Elkins.

Ethan Crosten had 13 points to lead Tucker Valley.

Elkins (8-3) won the junior varsity contest 39-18.

Elliot White and Zach Shreve had nine points each for the Hornets.

Elkins host Belington on Wednesday.

Green Bank Splits pair

GREEN?BANK - The Green Bank Middle School boys basketball team split a pair of games with Marlinton on Monday.

The Eagles won the varsity contest 47-41.

Brady Johnes had 16 points, while Danny Kimble added 15 points for Green Bank.

Wyatt Workman finished with 16 points, while Ryan Irvine had 11 points for Marlinton.

Marlinton won the junior varsity contest 39-20.

Ryan Brumfield had 10 points for Marlinton.

Darryl Foster had six points, while Michael Long and Jacob Jones had four points each for Green Bank.

The Eagles travel to Pendleton County tonight.

Middle School Girls Basketball

Tucker Valley swept a pair of games from?Elkins Monday.

The Lady Wildcats won the varsity contest 55-18.

Sydney Nestor had 16 points to lead Tucker Valley.

Sierra Poling had eight points for Elkins.

The Lady Wildcats won the junior varsity contest 27-21.

Dominique Meadows had six points to lead Tucker Valley.

Taylor Phillips had nine points for Elkins.

Kaci Zopp added seven points for the Lady Hornets.
