The cold that keeps on coming

Round and About ... Barbour County

Brrrr .. it's been cold this week! I guess that's to be expected since it's winter. Hope everyone is staying warm.

There's been some concern among parents that budget cuts could eliminate sports in the middle schools. A meeting was held to discuss ways to keep this from happening. All agree that sports can play an important role in education, and doing away with it is not something that anyone wants to see happen.

There has been a Facebook page created to keep up to date on the information and to share ideas. Check out the "Barbour All County Sports Organization" page for more information. This subject will also be discussed at the next board meeting, which will be Monday at 6 p.m. It's nice to see unity between the parents and the board of education in solving this issue.

On Feb. 10, starting at 8 a.m., there will be an off-road adventure taking place. This will be a ride to benefit the Belington Fire Department. Those who come out will be sure to enjoy a day with lots of mud, food, fun and fellowship. For more information, call Matt or Travis Ryan at 304-823-1051.

Last week, there was a county wide evacuation of schools due to a bomb threat. Thankfully, it was just a threat, and no one was hurt. It's a sad thing when people have nothing better to do than cause harm or frustration to others. May I urge you, if you have any information on this, contact the authorities.

Philip Barbour wrestlers are headed to Petersburg this weekend for the Viking Smash. They are coached by Rick Daugherty and Pete Ferguson. Good luck to all!

If you have any Barbour County news that you would like to see in the Inter-Mountain, feel free to give me a call at 304-823-2539.

Until next time ... "Everyone you meet knows something you don't know. Be willing to learn from them."
