Monday is the last day to register for the first legislative luncheon of the year.

The Elkins-Randolph County Chamber of Commerce's 2013 Legislative Luncheon will take place from 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Randolph County Community Arts Center, 2 Park St., in Elkins.

Approximately 70 people have already registered to attend the gathering, which will focus on issues that affect the Randolph County business community, ERCCC Executive Director Kate Reed said this week.

Monday is the last day the chamber will accept reservations, Reed said, and residents may sign up calling the chamber at 304-636-2717 or emailing chamber@erccc.com.

Legislators who plan to be in attendance include new state Commissioner of Agriculture Walt Helmick, Sen. Clark Barnes, R-Randolph, Del. Bill Hartman, D-Randolph, Del. Denise Campbell, D-Randolph, and Sen. Gregory Tucker, R-Nicholas.

Reed said she was particularly pleased that Tucker has confirmed he's coming.

"Sen. Greg Tucker is a new legislator for Randolph County because of redistricting," Reed said. "We've never seen his face here before."

So, what topics are on tap for the 2013 legislative luncheon?

"We focus on issues that are important to the Randolph County business community and its members," Reed said, "so some of the issues that we will likely be exploring are education, balancing the budget and job creation. Of course, it's not limited to that."

Armstrong Worldwide Industries retiree Gary Clay - who is also a member of the West Virginia Manufacturers Association - will moderate Wednesday's luncheon. Sponsors include Kingsford, Huntington Bank and the Manahan Group.
