Rotarians learn about database

January 29, 2013
By Beth Christian Broschart - Staff Writer , The Inter-Mountain

Rotary members have an under-utilized tool at their fingertips. Elkins Rotary Club member Pat Schoonover explained Monday how to set up the Rotary Database program to enable easy access to logging on at any time.

"With the database, you can get a list of all members and their phone numbers for a project," Schoonover said. "Member Merllene Yorkey inputs the attendance into the computer each week."

Schoonover said the information on the database goes straight to Rotary International.

"Members can also access the location, time and date of meetings in different areas if they are out of town," Schoonover said. "You can also locate and contact members in other clubs and other cities."

Rotary member Bob Dunkerly said there is at least one eRotary Club in West Virginia.

"The eclubs concept was to create a club where members can meet who cannot leave their jobs for breakfast or lunch clubs," Dunkerly said.

"Mountain State Rotary is an eclub that meets on Mondays," Schoonover said. "You can log on and make up meetings, but we really encourage members to join traditional clubs."

Schoonover said the database was first updated by long-time member Gary Chase.

"Gary put everyone's information into the database," Schoonover said. "Before that, everything we had was just paper copies."
