TENNERTON Buckhannon-Upshur's girls played the tough North Marion squad strong through much of Monday night's contest, but ultimately fell to the sharpshooting Huskies 58-41. They connected on a total of eight three-pointers. Coach Tristan Gray's B-U team battled them even up in the middle quarters, but were hampered by 25 total turnovers, 16 that occurred in the first half.

"I can't be disappointed in our effort," Gray said. "We played hard and that is as close as we have been to North Marion in several years. It is still a loss, but we put up a strong fight against a very good and deep team."

In reality, the turnovers kept it from being a very close game. While North Marion produced a lot of early steals, they had trouble stopping the Lady Bucs if they beat the pressure.

On two separate occasions, it appeared the game was going to be a blowout. North Marion registered a 16-4 run to close the first quarter, turning an early 4-4 tie into a 20-8 advantage. B-U battled back even up in the second quarter and trailed 34-20 at the half. The Huskies opened up the second half with a 12-3 run, opening up their largest lead at 46-23 with three minutes remaining in the third quarter. But B-U responded behind a combination of Jess Feronti drives and Kelsey Hinzman three-pointers to produce 14-2 surge of their own over the next five minutes, cutting the margin to 48-37 with only six minutes left.

North Marion's defense stiffened down the stretch and held on for the victory. In all, B-U hit six threes of their own, four by Hinzman and two by Feronti.

Hinzman led the Lady Bucs with 14 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists while Feronti had 13 points and three assists. Megan Wilfong added seven points and nine rebounds.

Megan Haller and Audia Bartlett each hit three three-pointers for North Marion, scoring 15 and 13 points respectively. Cassie Rodriguez produced team highs of nine rebounds and five steals.

North Marion improves to 9-4 overall, while the Lady Bucs fall to 2-14. Buckhannon-Upshur remains at home Wednesday night hosting Liberty.
