EHS swimmers get final tune-up for postseason

The Elkins High School swim teams got a tune-up for the postseason with a home meet against Hampshire Tuesday night at Davis &?Elkins College.

The EHS girls swam to a 94-52 victory, while the Tiger boys dropped a 77-37 decision to the Trojans.

Both teams will compete in the Big 10 Conference championship at 10 a.m. Saturday at Fairmont State University. Regional competition follows Feb. 9 at Wesleyan.

Senior Delaney Johnson, in her final competition at the D&E pool, placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (25.20) and 100 butterfly (1:03.39) to lead the Lady?Tigers, while freshman Tayler Lee took the 200 freestyle (2:25.81) and 500 freestyle (6:46.85).

Other first-place finishers for Elkins were senior Tenny DeMarco in the 100 breaststroke (1:25.63) and freshman Skout Barger in the 100 backstroke (1:14.32).

DeMarco, Barger, Kayla Gainer and Johnson combined to win the 400 freestyle relay for the Lady Tigers in a time of 4:18.94.

The same foursome also won the 200 freestyle relay (1:50.64).

Lauren Cain, DeMarco, Barger and Gainer were part of the 200 medley relay time that crossed the finish line first in a time of 2:11.56.

Robert Hall led the EHS boys with first-place times in the 50 freestyle (24.40) and 100 freestyle (56.11). Brendan Cain also was first in the 500 freestyle (6:32.49).
