Local young women who dream of becoming Miss America can get started in Elkins, where they have an opportunity to compete in the Miss Central West Virginia Regional Scholarship Pageant.
Contestants who take part in this pageant have the opportunity to compete at a regional, state and national level. They could even go on to become Miss America.
The Miss Central West Virginia Regional Scholarship Miss and Outstanding Teen pageant, which is an official preliminary to the Miss West Virginia Organization, will be held at the Old Brick Playhouse in downtown Elkins on March 2, beginning at 6:30 p.m. There also will be a Junior Miss pageant for ages 5 to 12 on March 3, starting at 4 p.m. Titles will be awarded each day and the pageant is open to contestants statewide.
The Miss W.Va. Organization and Miss W.Va. Outstanding Teen pageants showcase some of the most talented, educated and socially aware women of the state. The goal of this organization is to promote the education of young women in the Outstanding Teen, ages 13 to 17, and the Miss, ages 17 to 24, who reside in West Virginia, by providing scholarships at every local pageant and the annual state pageant.
Both of the Outstanding Teen and Miss winners will compete at the state level, which is usually held in Morgantown every June.
Scholarships will be awarded by the Miss Central West Virginia Regional Pageant. Several thousand dollars of in-kind scholarships have been secured for this pageant and also will be available.
