Sectionals underway for boys basketball

High school basketball section play will kick into high gear today for area teams.

In the Class AA,?Region II, Section 2 tournament, Philip Barbour will entertain Liberty at 7 p.m. today, while Lincoln visits Grafton.

The Liberty-Philip Barbour winner travels to Robert C. Byrd on Wednesday. The victor in the Lincoln-Grafton contest will play at Bridgeport.

The Class A, Region II, Section 2 tournament also begins today as Pocahontas County will host Paw Paw and Pendleton County will entertain the West Virginia School for the Deaf.

Moorefield and East Hardy have byes in the tournament and will host games on Thursday.

Elkins, meanwhile, will entertain Hampshire at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the opener of the Class AAA, Region II, Section 2 tournament. Buckhannon-Upshur will visit Lewis County in the other sectional contest.

The title game will be contested Friday at the site of the highest remaining seed.

The other sectional involving area Class A teams will take place at Alderson-Broaddus College.

Top-seed Tucker County will face Union or South Harrison at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, while Tygarts Valley will battle Notre Dame in the 7:30 p.m. contest.

The title game will take place at 7 p.m. Friday.

Regional play will begin next Tuesday, with the state tournament taking place March 13-16 at the Charleston Civic Center.
