Senior finale for trio

MORGANTOWN - West Virginia will close out the regular season and honor three seniors today against Iowa State.

Game time is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. at the Coliseum.

The Mountaineers (13-17, 6-11 Big 12) hope to end the regular season on a winning note and secure the seventh seed in the upcoming Big 12 Conference tourney with a win. WVU has dropped its last five contests, including an 83-70 decision at Oklahoma on Wednesday.

"We need to win the game," Mountaineer coach Bob Huggins said. "If we win the game, we're assured the seventh seed in the tournament, which is certainly not what we want, but as the seventh seed we play TCU in the first round and Kansas State awaits."

A victory also would keep the Mountaineers from facing Kansas in a second-round contest if they were to win their opener.

Deniz Kilicli, Dom Rutledge and Matt Humphrey will all suit up for the final time at home for WVU.

Kilicli is the lone holdover from the Mountaineers' Final Four team from three years ago. The 6-9, 240-pound forward from Istanbul, Turkey, is averaging 9.1 points and 5.9 rebounds.

Rutledge and Humphrey both transfered into the program.

Rutledge, native of Newark, N.J., came to Morgantown via Western Texas Junior College, while Humphrey, who hails from Chicago, played at Boston College and Oregon before coming to WVU.

Freshman Eron Harris leads the Mountaineers in scoring with 9.8 points per game. He had 23 points in Wednesday's loss.

The Cyclones (20-10, 10-7) enter their first-ever appearance in Morgantown still in the mix for an NCAA tournament berth.

Iowa State, under Fred Horberg, is coming off an 87-76 win over No. 13 Oklahoma State Wednesday at home.

Five different players average in double figures for the Cyclones, led by guards Will Clyburn (14.8) and Tyrus McGee (13.3), along with 6-7 forward Georges Niang (11.7).
