Tucker County will meet Greater Beckley Christian in the quarterfinals of the Class A state tournament at 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Charleston Civic Center.
The Mountain Lions, despite a 20-3 record, are the No. 4 seed in the tournament. Tucker County defeated third-seed Charleston Catholic earlier this year in Hambleton.
Tug Valley is the top seed and will face No. 8 Notre Dame at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday, while Charleston Catholic will battle No. 6 Buffalo at 9:30 a.m. and No. 2 Magnolia will play No. 7 Wheeling Central at 1 p.m.
"It should be a very competitive tournament," Tucker County coach Tom Gutshall said. "There's Tug Valley and Magnolia, teams that dropped down a class this year, and then you have the private schools.
"We're looking forward to going (to Charleston) and represent the community the best we can."
The Mountain Lions earned their 11th straight state berth with a hard-fought 68-59 win over East Hardy Thursday night in a regional final.
Junior forward Ian Nichols had 28 points and 12 rebounds in the victory.
In Class AAA, quarterfinal matchups include No. 1 Martinsburg vs. No. 8 Huntington, No. 2 Beckley vs. No. 7 Hurricane, No. 3 South Charleston vs. No. 6 Morgantown and No. 4 Washington vs. No. 5 Parkersburg South.
The Class AA field was completed on Friday night as Big 10 Conference schools Bridgeport, Robert C. Byrd and North Marion earned regional wins.
Tournament pairings are No. 1 Bluefield vs, No. 8 Webster County, No. 2 Fairmont Senior vs. No. 7 Scott, No. 3 Westside vs. No. 6 Bridgeport and No. 4 Robert C. Byrd vs. No. 5 Tolsia.
The state tournament will begin Wednesday morning. The championship games will be held next Saturday, starting at noon with the Class A championship contest.
