Several events coming in Barbour County

April 6, 2013
By Sara Harris Special to The Inter-Mountain , The Inter-Mountain

Hello from Barbour County! I hope everyone had a good Easter. It sure is nice to see the sun shining again.

I'm glad to be from West Virginia. Not only this wonderful state, but also this community. Last weekend, a benefit dinner was held for Johnny Sisolack, who lost everything in a fire at his garage. It sure was nice to see so many people come out in support of a friend. Thanks to everyone who contributed.

Nick Mayle and Marcus Johnson left early Monday morning for their walk to Canton, Ohio. Lots of supporters met in Philippi to see them off. This is an inspiring achievement in support of kids all over the county.

Donations can be made to the Barbour All County Sports Organization at: BACSO, Barbour All County Sports Organization, P.O. Box 53, Philippi, West Virginia 26416.

Thank you to all the supporters!

BACSO also has stickers for your car. They are digitally printed and laminated and 5-inches in size. They are $7 and if you are interested in one, contact Buffie Ward Brewer by calling 613-7699.

The Tacy Community Center is having their all you can eat buckwheat breakfast, today, from 7 a.m.- 1 p.m. The breakfast will consist of buckwheat cakes, sausage, biscuits and sausage gravy.

There will be a primitive bingo on Saturday at 2 p.m. at the Philippi City Building. This is to benefit Barbour County 4-H Equestrian Team.

Philip Barbour is having their Spring Chicken Dinner on April 12. Lunch is available from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and dinner from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Pre-sale tickets are $8. All money raised will go to support incentive activities for the students.

Philippi is looking for artists to participate in their art stroll on April 30 from 5-8 p.m. in downtown Philippi. For more information, call 457-3700 ext. 226.

The Belington Public Library will hold their geneology club meeting on April 13 from 9 a.m. to noon. Guest speaker will be author and historian David Armstrong, from Elkins. He will be featuring his book, "Blue Steel, Timber & Stream," a book on trains and the logging industry. If you have any questions, call the library at 823-1026.

On April 14, there will be a benefit off-road ride to raise money for Belington Emergency Squad. There will be lots of food, prizes and fun. For more information on this, call 823-1051.

Another 5K will be held on May 4, this one in Philippi. This is for Broaddus Hospital's Relay for Life. For more information on this, contact Donna Jones at the hospital.

Also on May 4, there will be a motorcycle ride to benefit Barbour All County Sports Organization and PBHS FFA. Registration is at 9:30 a,m. to noon at the Philippi City Building. The cost is $10 per rider and $5 per passenger. This ride will take you through 150 miles of beautiful West Virginia Mountains. For more information, call 457-5776 or 457-6049.
