Elkins, Tygarts Valley earn victories

Colby Gainer gave up just one hit over three innings of work to pick up the win to lead Elkins past Webster County 11-1 Monday in five innings of work.

He gave up one walk and struck out four.

Ryan Summerfield had a two-run double, while Caleb Riggleman had an RBI double and scored two runs for the Tigers (1-6).

Kollin Hopwood had a hit and RBI and scored a run, while Marky Parrack had an RBI triple and scored a run for the Tigers.

"It was nice to get the first win of the season," Elkins coach Adam Roth said. "Hopefully, it's a trend for a long time."

Elkins travels to Preston tonight at 4:30 p.m. for a varsity-only contest.

Tygarts Valley 14,

Pocahontas County 2

DUNMORE - Cody Grimmett had two hits and drove in a run to lead Tygarts Valley past Pocahontas County 14-2 Monday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Brandon Pritt and Adam Cassell had one hit each and two RBIs for Tygarts Valley?(3-4).

P.J.?Lanham and Timmy Sparks had one hit each and scored a run for Tygarts Valley.

Keighan Chewning picked up the win for the Bulldogs in five innings of work.

He gave up two runs on four hits, walked two and struck out six.

Braxton?Rider took the loss for the Warriors in three innings of work.

Cary Robertson and Bradon Hammons had one hit each and an RBI for Pocahontas County.

Tygarts?Valley travels to Hundred Thursday for a non-conference matchup at 5 p.m.

Moorefield 9,

Petersburg 8

MOOREFIELD - Mikey Pultz had two hits and two RBIs to lead Moorefield past Petersburg 9-8 Monday in eight innings in non-conference action.

Tyler Smith had a double and two RBIs, while Garrett Keller had a hit and two RBIs for the Yellow Jackets (10-3).

Jared Kite notched the win for Moorefield in one inning of work.

Austin Williams started the game going the first seven innings for the Yellow Jackets.

Brandon George took the loss for the Vikings in 5 1/3 innings of work.

Brandon George had three hits and an RBI, while Brian George added two hits, four RBIs and a home run for Petersburg.

Moorefield travels to Alleghany (Md.) tonight at 7 p.m. for a non-conference matchup.

Petersburg visits Southern (Md.) on?Wednesday at 7 p.m.

Pendleton County 15, Union 2

FRANKLIN?-?Callum McGrath had three hits and two RBIs to lead Pendleton County past Union 15-2 Monday in five innings in a Potomac Valley Conference matchup.

Tim Hevener and Jesse Lambert had two hits and an RBI each, while Andrew Thompson had two hits and three RBIs for Pendleton County.

McGrath notched the win for Pendleton County in four innings of work. He gave up no hits, walked two and struck out eight.

Pendleton?County travels to Pocahontas County tonight at 7 p.m. for a PVC?tilt.

East Hardy sweeps Tucker County

BAKER?- The East Hardy High School baseball team swept a pair of games from Tucker County Monday night in a Potomac Valley Conference matchup.

The Cougars (6-5, 4-0 PVC) won the first game 11-0 and swept the nightcap 17-7.

Dylan Strawderman got the win in Game 1 in three innings of work. He gave up no runs on three hits and struck out five.

Shawn Skovron and Brady Hinkle had two hits each to lead the Cougars.

Skovron had three RBIs and a home run, while Hinkle had an RBI.

Justin Basye had a three-run triple for East Hardy.

Jeriah Joseph took the loss for the Mountain Lions in six innings of work.

Kevin McDermott had two hits for Tucker County.

Logan Strawderman notched the win in Game 2 in 1 1/3 innings of relief.

Hinkle had three hits and two RBIs, while Skovron had two hits and four RBIs for East Hardy.

William Haddox took the loss for the Mountain Lions in 5 1/3 innings of work.

Seth Underwood and Nick Akins had two hits each and RBI for Tucker County.

East Hardy hosts Union today at 7 p.m. for a PVC matchup.

DUNMORE - Danielle Johnson had four hits and scored two runs to lead Tygarts Valley past Pocahontas County 16-7 Monday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

Alexis Vandevender had three hits and scored four runs, while Paige Pritt added two hits and scored four runs for Tygarts Valley (1-3).

Shaunna Taylor chipped in with two hits and three runs scored for the Lady Bulldogs.

Natalie Hartzell took the loss for the Lady Warriors.

Harley Francisco had three hits for Pocahontas County.

Tygarts Valley travels to East Hardy tonight at 7 p.m. for a PVC matchup.

East Hardy sweeps Tucker County

BAKER?- The East Hardy High?School softball team swept a pair of games from Tucker County Monday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

The Lady Cougars (9-2) won the first game 17-0 and swept the second game 10-0.

Autumn Mathias notched the win for the Lady Cougars in three innings of work.

She gave up no runs on no hits, walked one and struck out three.

Morgan Basye and Rayann Foltz had two hits each and two RBIs for the Lady Cougars.

Bekah Simmons took the loss for Tucker County in three innings of work.

Morgan Mongold had two hits and three RBIs, while Jadie Foltz had two hits and two RBIs for the Lady Cougars.

Buckhannon-Upshur 3

FAIRMONT - East Fairmont defeated Buckhannon-Upshur 7-3 Monday in Big 10 Conference action.

Brooklyn Waddell had two hits and three RBIs to lead the Lady Bucs (7-7).

Sarah Ling and Lindsey Wagoner had the other hits for B-U.

Waddell, Julie Tenney and Ling all scored runs for Buckhannon-Upshur.

Megan Williams took the loss for Buckahnnon-Upshur in six innings of work. She gave up nine hits, seven runs, walked one and struck out four.

Buckhannon-Upshur host University Wednesday at 6:15 p.m. for a non-conference matchup and will host Jefferson on Friday.

Sydney Leary, Jarrah Reams and Michella Young all had two hits to lead Elkins past Robert L.?Bland 11-2 Monday night.

Susan Riggleman picked up the win for the Lady Hornets in three innings of work.

Lauren Wilmoth pitched two innings of work for the Lady Hornets.

Morgan Wright took the loss for the Lady Patriots.
