Clinics and a tryout for jesters of the 77th Mountain State Forest Festival will begin later this month at the YMCA in Elkins.
Randolph County students currently enrolled in the sixth through ninth grades are eligible.
Jester applicants will be judged on an original paragraph of 100 words or less on "Why I Want To Be a Jester;" a routine including cartwheels, somersaults, round-offs and simple dance steps to be taught during jester clinics; and their own individual one-minute routine.
Randolph County students currently enrolled in sixth through ninth grades are eligible to try out to be jesters in this year’s Mountain State Forest Festival.
Participants also will be judged on their appearance, attitude, smile, personality and gymnastics ability. An educator reference, including an attendance and grade report, as well as a personal reference will be required.
To be eligible, participants must attend all jester clinics at the YMCA, which are scheduled for 5:30 to 7 p.m. April 16, 17 and 18. A mandatory parent meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. April 16.
Tryouts will take place at 10 a.m. April 20 at the YMCA.
Jester tryout applications are available at any Randolph County middle or high school and the Mountain State Forest Festival office.
A parent or guardian must sign the release portion of the application before any student can participate in the clinics or tryouts.
The Mountain State Forest Festival jesters are included in all minor court activities, including school tours, coronation and parades.
The 77th Mountain State Forest Festival will be Sept. 28 to Oct. 6.
