Elkins City Council plans to vote on appointing a new council member at Thursday's regularly scheduled meeting.

Council met Tuesday evening to set the town's levy rate for the 2014 fiscal year, which will remain at the current year's levels - 12.50 cents per $100 in Class I, 25.00 cents per $100 in Class II, and 50.00 cents per $100 in Class IV.

Following the levy rate vote, council voted to go into executive session to interview applicants for the open council seat.

Mayor Van Broughton had to abandon his 2nd Ward seat after winning the March mayoral election.

Applicant interviews were scheduled at 15-minute intervals Tuesday.
