Valley Health Care Inc. serves the community by operating two primary care facilities in the local area, including sites in Mill Creek and Elkins.

The locations provide services for both chronic and acute-care patients, for adult and children. They also offer walk-in services Monday through Friday for current patients suffering from minor illnesses and health problems.

In Elkins, some of the providers include Dr. Eric Anger; Dr. Matthew Downs; Dr. Lorrie Downs; Rachel Anger, certified pediatric nurse practitioner; certified physician assistants Lynne Shaver and Christie Shoemaker; and registered nurse Amy Chewning, as well as about 15 other staff members.

The Elkins location, also known as Arbor Medical Associates, became affiliated with Valley Health Care Inc. within the past few years. It is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, with the walk-in clinics available from 8 to 10 a.m. each day.

Shoemaker said she enjoys working in the medical field, and she's always been interested in science and health care.

"It's very rewarding to help treat patients and help make a difference in their lives," she said.

Rachel Anger agreed, and said she also enjoys working with all of her patients. Anger focuses on pediatric care, so she helps make sure children have their immunizations up to date and that they have normal development. She also talks to parents to let them know what to expect next as their children grow.

Chewning said working with children is the best part of her job.

"I like dealing with the kids and interacting with them," she said.

"It's neat to see them grow up. ... It feels good to help out my community and to know that I have a part in helping raise the next generation."

The Mill Creek site recently welcomed two new providers - Donielle Teter, certified nurse practitioner; and Scott Shomo, certified physician assistant.

The location also has an optometrist, Dr. Adam Casseday, on site four days a week. Dr. Matthew Downs also is at the Mill Creek site one day a week, as is Dr. Eric Anger.

About 20 staff members work at the Mill Creek location, including providers. The office is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday. The walk-in clinic is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday; and currently from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday.

The Mill Creek site is located along U.S. 219, next to George Ward Elementary School, and it can be reached by calling 304-335-2050. The Elkins location, at 105 Nathan St., can be reached by calling 304-636-0133.
