Trojans hold off Elkins, 2-1

Tygarts Valley sweeps Tucker County in PVC encounter

Trevor Largent had two hits and scored a run to lead Class AAA, No. 2 Hampshire past Elkins 2-1 Friday in non-conference action.

David Delawder followed with an RBI double, while Matthew Maiers had an RBI single for the Trojans (17-1).

Brandon Timbrook notched the win for Hampshire in five innings of work. He gave up one run on three hits, walked one and struck out two.

Ben Lonergan took the loss for the Tigers (10-9) in four innings of work. Lonergan gave up one earned run on five hits and walked one.

Kollin Hopwood had a single and scored a run, while Jake Wyatt and Tyler Shreve had the other hits for the Tigers.

Silas Gibson pitched 2 1/3 innings of relief, giving up no runs on one hit, walking five and fanning one.

"Hampshire is a quality baseball team," Elkins coach Adam Roth said. "I thought we played well, but just didn't get the hit when we needed it."

Elkins will travel to Bridgeport at 4:30 p.m. Monday for a Big 10 Conference tilt.

Bulldogs sweep Tucker

MILL CREEK - Tygarts Valley swept Tucker County Friday in Potomac Valley Conference action.

The Bulldogs cruised to a 10-0 win in six innings in the lidlifter before holding off the Mountain Lions, 6-5, in the nightcap.

Keighan Chewning pitched six scoreless innings on the mound to get the win for Tygarts Valley in the opener. Chewning gave up two hits, walked two and struck out eight.

P.J. Lanham had two hits and drove in four runs, while Timmy Sparks had two hits and an RBI for the Bulldogs.

Jeriah Joseph took the loss for the Mountain Lions in five innings of work.

Nathaniel Goldstein and William Haddox had the lone hits for Tucker County.

Ryan Hoffman picked up the win in the second game in five innings of work. He gave up five runs on five hits, walked two and struck out one.

Adam Cassell had two hits and scored two runs, while Lanham had one hit and drove in two runs for TV.

Haddox took the loss for the Mountain Lions in 6 2/3 innings of work. He gave up six runs on seven hits, walked two and struck out three.

Kevin McDermott had two hits and an RBI for Tucker County.

Tucker County will travel to Paw Paw at 1 p.m. today.

Tygarts Valley will host Gilmer County at 4:30 p.m. on Monday for a doubleheader.
