Senators sweep Bobcats

D&E to meet Shepherd in WVC?tournament action

BUCKHANNON - Davis & Elkins and Wesleyan ended their rivalry in the West Virginia Conference Saturday at Hank Ellis Field.

The Senators earned a doubleheader sweep of the Bobcats, taking the lidlifter 14-0, and the nightcap, 5-1.

Both teams will head to different conferences next fall, as the Senators will join the Great Midwest Athletic Conference and Wesleyan will help charter the newly-formed Mountain East Conference.

Junior first baseman Treavor Dubiel knocked in seven runs and Josh Kehr allowed just four hits in the Senators' win in the opener.

Dubiel went 4-for-4 and cracked a two-run homer in the sixth for D&E, which banged out 16 hits on the day.

Matt Moceri and Kyle Crist added homers for the Senators. Moceri finished with four RBIs, while Lance VanNoy collected three hits.

Kehr went the first six innings, striking out four and not walking a batter. Tripp Staley struck out the side in the seventh in one inning of relief.

Aaron Adams took the loss for Wesleyan, giving up 10 runs on 12 hits. He struck out four and walked two.

In the second game, D&E struck for four runs in the first to coast to the win.

Travis Phelps had a two-run single and Dubiel a two-run double in the opening frame for the Senators.

Houston Darling added an RBI in the seventh.

Crist went six innings, allowing five hits, striking out two and walking two to earn the win. Staley allowed one hit and one walk in the seventh.

Andrew Ornes was tagged with the loss, surrendering four runs and two hits in just 2/3 of an inning. Nick Bengels and Chris Stein finished in relief.

Matt Edwards had a pair of hits for the Bobcats. Elkins High product Spencer Webley had the lone RBI.

"We hit the ball very well, especially Treavor Dubiel in that first game with seven RBIs," D&E coach Ronnie Palmer said. "We've played pretty well as of late and this is the time of the season you want to be playing your best ball."

The Senators (26-18, 20-13 WVC) will begin conference tournament action at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Beckley against Shepherd.

Wesleyan ended the season 17-25 and 12-15.
