Mrs. Vera Lavenna Pifer Auvil

Mrs. Vera Lavenna Pifer Auvil celebrated her 97th birthday at her home in Parsons on April 12, 2013, with some of her family.

She was born April 12, 1916, a daughter of the late Warden and Myrtle (Lance) Pifer. Mrs. Auvil had three siblings, the late Darwin Pifer, the late Leah Minear and Virginia Beckman, 94, of Charles Town.

On June 28, 1936, Vera married the late Bruce Clark Auvil, and they were married for 55 years before his death. They were the parents of three children, Clark Auvil and wife, Donna, of Elkins; the late Edward Auvil, and wife Barb, of Parsons; and Donna Bodkin and husband, Tom, of York, Pa.

Vera has always been a homemaker, with the exception of working at Smithson's Dry Goods store in Parsons, while her son, Ed, was serving in Vietnam.

Mrs. Auvil has lived at her home on Jameson Avenue for 68 years, where she continues to keep house, raise flowers, cook and can vegetables during the summer. She always has baked goodies on the weekend in case someone should stop by.

She is a wonderful lady who is cherished by her family, neighbors and friends.

Casey and wife (Miss) Casey Auvil of Little Rock, Ark., and son, Dylan, and daughter, Ashley, and husband, Loren McKinzie and son, Colin, of Memphis, Tenn.; Tim Auvil and wife, Penny, of Parsons, and his children and grandchildren; daughter, Shannan, and husband, Matt Smith, of Elkins, and their daughters Audrey, Christiana and Vivian, and stepdaughters Natasha and Amber Scarf; Navy Chief Petty Officer Jay Auvil, currently serving with the Marines at Camp Leatherneck, Afghanistan, and wife, Kim, of Jacksonville, N.C., and his children and grandsons, Alexis Auvil and twin sons Sean and Colton, of Fairmont, daughters Kaitlyn and Jessica of Boise, Idaho, and stepdaughter, Kylee, of Jacksonville, N.C.; daughter and children, Tonya Auvil and friend Kris Woodrum, f Elkins, and daughter Logan and son Eli; and Benjamin Auvil and wife, Ann, of Elkins, and his children, Kayla and Ben Auvil, and stepchildren, Savannah and Charley Preston.

The late Edward Auvil, and his wife Barb, of Parsons, their son, Bruce Auvil, of Parsons, and daughter, Kimber; and David Auvil and wife, Tiffany, of Parsons, his stepdaughter and step grandchildren, Katie and husband, Cody Phillips, of Parsons, and Bryson and Maddie.

Daughter Donna Sue (Auvil) Bodkin, and husband, Tom, of York, Pa. their children and grandchild, Tommy Bodkin, and wife, Chastity, of York, Pa.; and daughter, Rebekah, and husband, Brett Harlicher, and son Easton, East Berlin, Pa.
