Upshur administrator resigns

May 9, 2013
By John Wickline - Upshur Bureau Chief , The Inter-Mountain

The Upshur County administrator resigned effective Thursday after more than 20 years on the job, citing personal reasons for the decision.

The courthouse office of Willie Parker was cleared out Thursday morning, and Parker could not be reached for comment. He had offered his letter of resignation Wednesday, asking that it take effect the next day.

Assistant administrator Megan Pomeroy will assume Parker's duties. She said she was unsure if the commissioners would seek a replacement for Parker. The resignation is on the agenda for discussion at Thursday's meeting of the Upshur County Commission.

"I started in September, and I have worked very closely with him," Pomeroy said. "It has been a pleasure. He is a wealth of information, and he is an incredibly supportive boss."

Pomeroy said Parker eased her learning curve for the job.

"He was always there to listen," she said. "I asked a lot of questions."

Commissioner Buddy Brady declined to comment on the issue, saying he did not believe it was the proper time to do so. Commissioners J.C. Raffety and Donnie Tenney did not return calls seeking comment.

Parker had also served on the Lewis County Board of Education for eight years, beginning in 1996, and was the school board president for two of those years. He opted not to run in 2004.
