West Virginia Wesleyan College's Enactus, formerly Students in Free Enterprise, will host a pancake breakfast at C.J. Maggie's in Buckhannon from 8 to 10 a.m. Saturday.
This fundraiser is to help deflect the cost of the team's participation in the National Competition in Kansas City, Mo., on May 21-23. The team was chosen to attend the competition after they won the regional competition in Baltimore, Md., by presenting the highlights of this year's projects.
The students of Enactus have also assembled nine baskets for raffle, with themes spanning from the Pittsburgh Pirates, to Couples' Night, to Fair Trade or Movie Night. These baskets will be on display during the Strawberry Festival at the First Presbyterian Church on Route 20. Tickets can be purchased from any Enactus member, at the pancake breakfast, or at the Festival.
Enactus is a student-driven organization with core values based in entrepreneurship, economic principles, environmental impact and financial literacy.
Throughout the year, students complete projects within the local communities aimed at meeting any and all of these objectives, with projects including: teaching social networking to fifth- and sixth-graders, assisting small businesses with the development of business and marketing plans, educating students of many ages about the importance of financial literacy, and helping individuals find employment to name a few. The Enactus organization focuses on encouraging entrepreneurial development and assisting those in need through education and skill development.
