"I love ice cream." "I love my wife." "I love my dog."
We apply the word "love" in many different ways, yet, it is easy to misapply it spiritually.
The love of friends is "phileo" love. The love of dedication of mind and will is "agape" love, which may be applied toward those who hate you.
Jesus said, "Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you." (Matthew 5:44).
This love "is not an impulse from the feelings, it does not always run with the natural inclinations, nor does it spend itself only upon those for whom some affinity is discovered. Love seeks the welfare of all." (W. E. Vine).
Now consider the words, "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son" (John 3:16). Or the words, "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us." (Romans 5:8).
How much do you love God? Why not show your love for God with a local church?
