Ms. Barbara Jean Summerfield Steele, 66, a resident of Norton, departed this life at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, May 12, 2013, in Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown.
She was born May 29, 1946, at Hendricks, in Tucker County, a daughter of the late Odis Summerfield and Bessie Long Summerfield.
She is survived by one daughter, Alberta Regina Flanagan and husband, Mike, of Kingsville; five brothers, Carl Summerfield of Beverly, Doyle Summerfield of Nestorville, Walter Summerfield of Philippi, Lonnie Summerfield of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Roger Summerfield of Belington; and two sisters, Rachel Gragg of Nestorville and Ruby Kisamore of Montrose. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Michael Paul Flanagan, Hailee N. Haddix and Isaac Hatley; one great-grandson, Bentley Z. Small; two special children, Aaliyah and Trevor Hogue, whom she thought of as her own grandchildren; and her pride and joy, Shoe String, her beloved little doggie.
In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by one son, John H. Steele III; one granddaughter, Victoria Della Jean Flanagan; three sisters, Alberta Frederick, Flora Jones and Freddie Triplett; and four brothers: Jack, Odis, Golden and Charles Summerfield.
Mrs. Steele was a homemaker, loved to crochet, and was Protestant by faith.
Friends will be received from Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 6 to 9 p.m. today and again Thursday from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with Donna Marshall officiating. Interment will follow in Tacy Crossroads Cemetery at Tacy.
