Buckhannon Community Theatre has announced auditions in cooperation with the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum for Richard O'Brien's cult classic, "The Rocky Horror Show."
Auditions for "The Rocky Horror Show" will be at 6 p.m. Monday and Tuesday at Loar Hall Auditorium at West Virginia Wesleyan College. All those taking part in auditions must be older than 18, and they are asked to prepare a rock song with sheet music or a karaoke track. Everyone will be asked to read from the script and learn a short movement piece during the audition.
The show is being directed by Jeremiah Smallridge. In addition to onstage roles, Buckhannon Community Theatre also is looking for volunteers to help behind the scenes.
"The Rocky Horror Show" tells the story of a newly engaged couple getting caught in a storm. They come to the home of a mad transvestite scientist unveiling his new creation, a muscle man named Rocky Horror. The musical was adapted into the 1975 film, "The Rocky Horror Picture Show," which has a worldwide cult following and has the longest-running release in film history. Audience members will enjoy favorite songs, including "Time Warp," and others. This show is suitable for a mature audience.
"We are very excited to partner with TALA for the first time in order to bring this exciting production to life in a venue that will add to the horror of 'The Rocky Horror Show,' said BCT Executive Producer Erika Klie Kolenich. "BCT already enjoys a close partnership with Lewis County, as several of our recent members are from the area. We hope it is the first of many collaborations in the central West Virginia region that will thrill audiences."
Performance dates for "The Rocky Horror Show" are Sept. 12, 13, 19 and 20. Tickets will be available through TALA.
