MOOREFIELD - Moorefield punched its ticket to the Class A state softball tournament with 9-0 victory over South Harrison Thursday in the Region II finale.

The Yellow Jackets will face either Man or Fayetteville Wednesday in Vienna. Man holds a 3-0 lead in the first inning of its game that was suspended on Thursday and will be completed today.

Taylor Zuber twirled a three-hitter, striking nine and not walking a batter to earn the win.

The game ended after the top of the sixth inning due to the mercy rule.

Beth Cook and Brooke Riggleman both homered in the first inning as Moorefield took an early 3-0 lead. Riggleman finished with three RBIs on the night.

The Yellow Jackets tacked on two more runs in the third and four in the fourth.

Danica Rogers, Michaela Regester and Katelyn Wills each had two hits for the winners. Wills had two RBIs.

Jessica Puddister took the loss for the Hawks.

In other regional action on Thursday night, Petersburg claimed an 11-10 win over Robert C. Byrd in Clarksburg to advance in Class AA action.

The Vikings will begin state tournament action next week in Vienna.

Wayne and James Monroe also advanced in Class AA on Thursday, while the other regional final was postponed until today.
