The city of Elkins will implement a new automated phone system. The purpose of the automated calls will be to inform utility customers of any outstanding balances before their service is terminated.
This system will replace the current past-due notices that are placed on customers' doors.
The automated phone calls will serve as the two attempts to notify by personal contact those customers in jeopardy of termination of service, in accordance with state code.
Customers are asked to submit an active and valid daytime telephone number for their account, and keep the city's Utility Billing Department updated on any changes.
