Karl Moll

Karl Moll was born Nov. 29, 1925, at Rochester, Pa., and raised in the Pittsburgh, Pa., area.

He was a graduate of Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pa., and Penn State University. He taught public speaking at Montclair State University for most of his long college teaching career, including lengthy service as chair of the Department of Speech and Theater, with previous positions at the University of Richmond and Rutgers University. At college, he met his bride of 63 years, Janet Elizabeth Keller of Manchester, Conn. Karl was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Elkins. Karl had wide ranging interests which included devotion to mystery and detective novels and other reading, cameras and photography and with his wife, Janet, both singing in church choirs and serving the needy through decades of volunteer work with Goodwill Industries in New Jersey, Trinity United Methodist Church of Clifton, N.J., and the food pantry at St. Paul's United Methodist Church of Paden City, to name a few. Among his many major accomplishments at Trinity United Methodist Church was his work as the chairperson of the Church Building Committee, in which he helped to create plans for the church's major renovation, with particular interest in the preservation and recreation of the stained glass windows. Most of all, Karl and Janet loved spending time with their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

He was the son of Harvey Reuben Moll and Helen Esther Moll, nee Arnold.

He is survived by his wife, Janet, nee Keller; his daughter, Sherrill Strickland and her husband, Phil; grandson, Jacob; granddaughter, Jessica Mayotte and her husband, Keith; son, Barry and his wife, Pamela; grandson, Brandon and his wife, Amy; great-grandchildren, Bree, Ashton, Elise and Eli; granddaughter, Emily Roush and her husband, Tony; grandson, Jonathan and his wife, Celia; great-grandson JJ; granddaughter, Elizabeth and her fiancee, Jonathan Brumfield, and his son, Kirk and his wife, Mary; granddaughter, Erin and her fiancee, Amy Terrizzi; and grandson, Karl. He is also survived by his brother, John and wife Melissa; and his brother, Chuck and his wife, Judy.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Bill and his wife, Candice, his brother, Dick; and brother John's first wife, Sandy.

Friends may call from 6 until 8 p.m. today at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Friday, May 24, Mr. Moll will be moved to First United Methodist Church in Elkins for visitation from 10 until 11a.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Barry Moll and the Rev. Brandon Moll will officiate, and cremation will follow.
