Mountain Heritage slated for June 8

Visitors can immerse themselves in Appalachian culture and West Virginia tradition by attending the Mountain Heritage and Wine Festival at Stonewall Resort on June 8.

"Our state and this region is truly a repository of Appalachian culture, and it is our pleasure to present the artisans and their products at this one-of-a-kind festival at Stonewall Resort," said Mike Hager, general manager of Stonewall Resort.

Appalachian music, food, arts and crafts will be featured during the festival, which will take place from 1 to 9 p.m. at the Roanoke Activity Plaza. Guests can leisurely shop the products of 50 West Virginia vendors throughout the afternoon and early evening.

"This year's event will also showcase eight West Virginia wineries in the Lambert's Wine Garden. Here, attendees age 21 or older can sample delicious selections in a special tented area," Hager said.

There is a fee to enter the Lambert's Wine Garden where guests will be given a wine glass, corkscrew and be able to sample wines from all eight wineries. This are will be open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. For more information about this portion of the festival, anyone interested can call 304-269-4903.

Hager noted the Mountain Heritage & Wine Festival is being co-sponsored by the Stonewall State Park Foundation, Lambert's Winery, McFly Outdoors, Walmart of Weston and the Lewis County Convention and Visitors Bureau. There will be music performed by several groups and musicians, including Topography, Haley Slagel, The Weathered Road and the Hillbilly Gypsies. Johnny Staats and the Delivery Boys will headline the event.

Other activities will include a barnyard animal petting zoo, face painting and Mountain Echoes, with an "Appalachian Sampler" of stories. Jackson's Mill will present its "History Hitting the Road" demonstration throughout the afternoon and early evening. Additional activities will be available for children in the Roanoke Activates Plaza including miniature golf, disc golf, arcade games, a rock wall and more. Hickory House BBQ along with other food vendors will be on site, so attendees can plan to spend the entire day.

For guests staying at the resort, Little Sorrel, the resort's excursion boat, will offer tours of Stonewall Jackson Lake throughout the weekend. Canoes and kayaks are available and offer a great way to explore the lake or to do some fishing.

The Palmer Signature Golf Course, ranked as one of the best golf courses in the country, has tee times available; however, guests should call in advance to make reservations.

There is a $5 per car fee to enter the State Park property. For additional information or reservations, anyone interested can contact Stonewall Resort at 304-269-7400 or visit the website at www.StonewallResort.com.

"Be sure and bring your family and friends and experience this exceptional array of entertainment and cultural activities," Hager said.
