The Upshur County Solid Waste Authority awarded $1,200 to Upshur County schools as part of the schools' recycling Bounty Program.
Awards were made to all nine participating schools for the 2012-13 school year based upon the per student recycling rate. The recycled items were collected by each school and weighed and processed at the City of Buckhannon Recycling Center.
First place went to Washington District Elementary with a $250 award; second place went to Rock Cave Elementary with a $200 award; and third place went to Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School with a $150 award.

High volume schools were Washington District and Buckhannon-Upshur Middle School with an additional $150 award. The other participating schools received $50 each. The award money can be used at each school as needed.
