American Legion Auxiliary Unit hosts meeting

A joint dinner with Buckhannon American Legion Post 7 was served May 14, after which the American Legion Auxiliary members retired to their meeting room. The meeting was called to order by Connie Bailey.

After opening ceremonies, Bailey announced the unit had reached 100 percent membership for the year. Another new membership application also was turned in.

The list of officers for the coming year was presented and approved. Installation will take place at the next meeting.

Bailey announced the auxiliary will sponsor 20 girls for Girls State again this year. The success of poppy distribution was announced. Strawberry cake sales were May 17 and 18.

The fact that computers are in great need for American military serving in Korea was discussed. A motion was made to make a donation. The motion carried.

It was announced that a local fifth-grade student, Kailea Brown, the daughter of Shawna Brown, qualified to attend a class in Washington, D.C. A motion was made to make a donation toward her traveling expenses. The motion carried.

A donation will be made to the residents of the Veterans Affairs Hospital to be used for their personal needs. A motion was made that a donation be made to veteran Paul Coleman to help with his medical expenses. The motion carried.

Peggy Shreve announced that the front office space in the building is now available for use by both the Post and the Auxiliary officers.

After a closing prayer, the meeting was adjourned.
