United Way to oversee distribution of funds

June 18, 2013
The Inter-Mountain

United Way of Randolph County will oversee distribution of federal monies that may be designated for the region. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) officials have instructed United Way to seek grant requests from eligible agencies in Randolph County.

The National Board of the Emergency Food and Shelter Plan (EFSP) has notified the Randolph County office that funding in the amount of $11,332 has been awarded for 2013. The funds would be used by eligible local service agencies to supplement and expand the capacity of existing emergency food and shelter programs in Randolph County.

Funds are not to be used for creating new programs. The Randolph County Emergency Food and Shelter Local Board, consisting of representatives from voluntary, governmental and religious sectors will determine how to allocate the funds that were awarded to Randolph County.

Under terms of the grant, local organizations receiving funds must be: private, voluntary non-profit or units of government; have an accounting system and conduct an annual audit by an independent accountant depending on the award amount; practice non-discrimination; operate an ongoing program that has demonstrated capability to deliver emergency food and/or shelter programs; and have a voluntary board, if a private, voluntary organization. The Randolph County local board has distributed Emergency Food and Shelter funds previously to five participating agencies.

Eligible organizations interested in applying for Emergency Food and Shelter Program funds must call the United Way of Randolph County at 304-636-0516 or visit the office at 309 Henry Ave. in Elkins.

The application deadline is June 24 at 4 p.m.
