It's been a long wait, but on Friday, Parsons will open its own skatepark.
"We want to invite everyone to help us celebrate this addition to our community," Parsons Park Board Secretary Kennetha Greenlief said. "I feel the town should be proud of this accomplishment."
The grand opening of the skatepark is slated for 6 p.m. Friday, as part of Go Skateboarding Day.

Bobby Nestor enjoys skateboarding at the new skatepark in Parsons. The park’s grand opening will be at 6 p.m. Friday.
Founded by the International Association of Skateboard Companies, Go Skateboarding Day gives passionate skateboarders the opportunity to drop everything and get on a skateboard.
"The event will feature a skating demonstration, free food, games, music and door prizes," Greenlief said. "We will also sponsor a skatepark naming contest that night.
"We want to make this a unique park," Greenlief said. "We are working on a split-rail fence to surround the park and bring it into the same theme as Corrick's Ford Park."
"This is something I have wanted since I was 16 years old," said Parsons resident Kurt Daniels. "To finally have a skatepark is great."
The skatepark features rails, funboxes and vertical ramps.
