Barbour fire claims home

Barbour County Emergency officials responded to a trailer fire early Wednesday morning on Taylor's Drain Road.

Philippi Fire Chief John Green said the fire is currently being ruled an accident. He said the tenant of the home started a coffee pot just before 4:30 a.m. that caught fire.

Green said the tenant resided in the trailer with three children. The tenant was able to get everyone out of the house before responders were dispatched, he said.

Because the trailer was an older model, the flames spread quickly, Green said. The home was fully engulfed when emergency responders from the Belington Emergency Medical Service and the Philippi, Belington and Grafton fire departments arrived, officials said.

Green estimated the damage to be $10,000. He said the fire was put out before 6 a.m.

The home was owned by a relative of the tenant who lives in Clarksburg, Green said.
