FAIRMONT - Fairmont plated three runs in the seventh inning en route to an 8-6 win over Elkins Wednesday night in American Legion action.
Post 29 trailed 4-1 before erupting for five runs in the seventh as Garrett Riggleman and Colby Gainer had RBI singles, Tyler Shreve drew a bases-loaded walk and Cody Gainer lofted an RBI sacrifice fly.
Fairmont answered in the bottom of the frame when Johnny Kessling cracked a two-run double and Brandon Plivelich crossed another run home with a groundout.
The hosts tacked on an unearned run in the eighth.
The game was deadlocked at 1-1 until Post 17 scored three runs in the fifth inning as Chris Petrucci had a run-producing single and Fletcher DeVaul and Johnny Kessling laced RBI doubles.
Brandon Hamons took the loss in one inning of relief, allowing three runs on two hits and walking one. Owen Arbogast started on the mound, working the first four innings.
Matt Robbins earned the win in relief, giving up one run on one one hit in 2 2/3 innings, and striking out three.
Riggleman had two hits at the plate for Post 29.
"We can't wait until the end of games to get going," Elkins general manager Chris George said. "We need to get off to better starts over the first five innings of our games."
Elkins will return to action at 4 p.m. Friday for a doubleheader against Beckley at Liberty-Raleigh High School.
