Elkins Rotary member Richard Holland receives a president pin from outgoing Rotary President Leesa Harris during the installation of new officers Monday at the Elks Country Club.

"Sometimes you do get burned out and we need to get some new blood in so we need to really concentrate on membership, and we must have retention," he said. "We need to look at the buddy plan. We all need to have a buddy so when we miss Rotary meetings, they can call us up and ask where we were because they missed us."

Holland said he would be calling on members throughout the year for help.

Continuing Rotary directors include Bob Dunkerley, Mike Ellis, Jeff Welschonce, Margy Burns, Hoy Ferguson and Mike Phillips. Pat Schoonover was named Rotarian of the Year.

Outgoing Rotary officers are Leesa Harris, president; Holland, vice president; Christy Tribble, program chair; and Amy Schumacher, secretary. Outgoing directors are Robbie Morris, Carol Cain Bush and Donna Seibert.

Harris thanked all of the outgoing officers and directors for their help and support.

"I want to thank each of you for having confidence in me and for giving me the opportunity to lead your club this year," Harris said. "It has been a learning and enjoyable experience.

"The year has gone very fast. Although we did face some challenges during the year, I feel we had a successful and positive year with our motto of 'Service Above Self' being accomplished."

During the year, funds raised from Rotary Fun Night, chicken barbecues and tin cups were used to assist many organizations, Harris said.

Tin cup offerings went to Catholic Charities, Literacy Volunteers, the Randolph County Community Arts Center, the Randolph County Homeless Shelter, Womens Aid in Crisis and the West Virginia Childrens Home.

Other donations were made to the Kump Education Center, the Davis House, Elkins Volunteer Fire Department, Rotary Foundation, Polio Plus, Allohak Council of Boy Scouts of America, Camp Horseshoe, Elkins High School Project Safe Graduation Party, Energy Express, Rhododendron Girl's State, Randolph County Community Arts Center, Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Conference, Catholic Charities, Randolph County Development Authority, First United Methodist Church After Prom Party, United Way of Randolph County, Youth Health Services, Elkins Middle School, Tygarts Valley Middle & High School, Elkins High School, Harman School, Elkins-Randolph County Public Library, Valley Head Library, Davis & Elkins College Booth Library, Third Ward Elementary, North School, the Elkins YMCA and the First United Methodist Church Backpack Program.

"Through our efforts of teamwork, we were able to help all these organizations," Harris said. "These efforts can't be accomplished by the work of one or two, or even 10 people. It takes the whole club to make us successful, and in my mind, our Rotary Club is a very effective team.

"When we have a project to do, everyone pitches in with their multiple talents," she said. "We work together, we're successful and we accomplish our mission. This is something we should all be proud of."
