Mrs. Vernie Gertrude (Leary) Watson, 76, a resident of Route 1 Belington, departed this life Friday morning, July 12, 2013, at her home, following a period of declining health.
She was born Aug. 30, 1936, at Beverly, a daughter of the late George Washington and Mable Grace (Sache) Leary.
In 1963, she was united in marriage to the late Howard Lee Watson, who preceded her in death in 2007. Mrs. Watson is survived by four children, Ora Cade and husband, Bill, James McCauley and wife, Susan, George McCauley and wife, Carol, and Esker McCauley; 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren also survive.
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one sister Hazel Leary; and four brothers, Delbert, Dice, Esker and infant Freddy Leary.
Mrs. Watson attended the schools of Randolph County and formerly was employed at the Beta Shoe Factory; Big T Restaurant and Nella's Nursing Home, all of Elkins. Vernie was a devout Christian and enjoyed going to church, playing and singing gospel music, reading her Bible and crocheting.
Friends will be received at Talbott Funeral Home, 210 Brandenburg St., in Belington today from 11 a.m. to 1 p?m., when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Pastor Virginia Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Olive Cemetery near Philippi. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Talbott Funeral Home to help with final expenses.
