Local residents earn pharmacy degrees

Two Randolph County residents were recently awarded doctor of pharmacy degrees from the West Virginia University School of Pharmacy.

Ashleigh Leann Landis of Valley Bend is the daughter of Charles and Shonnette Landis. She is the granddaughter of Voras and Betty Haynes and Elsia and the late Charles Landis. She is a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School and received a Bachelor of Science degree in biology at Fairmont State University.

While studying at the WVU School of Pharmacy, Landis served as the Alzheimer's Awareness co-chair of the WVU chapter of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists, treasurer of the WVU chapter of the Christian Pharmacists Fellowship International and secretary of the Alpha Mu chapter of the Rho Chi academic pharmacy honor society.

She also was a member of the Alpha Eta chapter of the Phi Lambda Sigma national pharmacy leadership society. Landis was a recipient of the Herbert Gottlieb Memorial Scholarship, the George A. & Lurania K. Topakas Pharmacy Scholarship, the West Virginia University Pharmacy Loyalty Scholarship and achieved president's list honors. The president's list recognizes those who achieve a GPA of 4.0.

At graduation, she received the Facts and Comparisons Award of Excellence in Clinical Communications. Landis graduated summa cum laude and will be completing a pharmacy practice residency with Rite Aid and the WVU School of Pharmacy in Morgantown.

Kevin Pritt of Beverly is the son of Mike Pritt and Robin Pritt. He is a graduate of Elkins High School. While studying at the WVU School of Pharmacy, Pritt was a member of the WVU chapter of the American Pharmacists Association-Academy of Student Pharmacists and the WVU chapter of the American Society of Health-System Pharmacists-Student Society of Health-System Pharmacists. He also received dean's list honors. The dean's list recognizes those who achieve a GPA of 3.5 or higher. Pritt graduated magna cum laude.
