Babe Ruth teams raising funds

July 20, 2013
The Inter-Mountain

Editor:

A sincere and heart-felt thank-you to the wonderful people of Elkins and Randolph County who supported the 14-year-old Elkins Babe Ruth All-Star team during the state tournament at Nutter Fort. Your support, whether you were at the game physically or spiritually, helped these boys win the state tournament and advance to the Ohio Valley Regional Tournament being held at the Jasper Youth Baseball Complex in Jasper, Ind., from July 24 to 28.

While the 14-year-old team will be playing in Jasper, the 15-year-old Elkins Babe Ruth team will be representing the state of West Virginia by playing in the Ohio Valley Babe Ruth Regional Tournament held at Grant Municipal Stadium and Zanesville High School in Zanesville, Ohio, from July 24 to 28. The games can be followed on Twitter - the 14-year-old tournament is @OHVJasper13 and the 15-year-old tournament is @OHVZanesville13.

Together these teams will be raising money for their trips by reaching out to businesses and organizations for donations, having a car wash and bake sale at Kroger and at the Tygart Valley Middle and High School from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today.

There also will be a pool and dance party at the Elks Country Club Pool from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday. The admission for the event is $10 per person. Snacks, drinks and music will be provided. There also will be fliers passed out throughout the community and at these events. If these fliers are presented at Bob Evans in Elkins on Monday, the restaurant will donate 15 percent of your gross bill. All money raised throughout the events will go to the Elkins Babe Ruth League that will then be divided between the two teams to help with expenses during the tournaments.

These young men have worked hard to get this far and will continue to work hard while they go to the respective states and represent our great city of Elkins, our great county of Randolph and our wild and wonderful state of West Virginia.

Good luck, gentlemen.
