Iva June Sparks Kump, 94, a resident of Poquoson, Va., departed this life Friday evening, July 19, 2013, in Retreat Hospital at Richmond, Va. She had been in declining health.
She was born Tuesday, June 17, 1919, at Connellsville, Pa., a daughter of the late Roy and Luzetta Beale Sparks.
She was married to Benjamin Franklin Kump II, who preceded her in death Sept. 5, 1999.
Surviving are two sons, Benjamin Franklin Kump III, and wife, Ann, of Apple Valley, Calif., and Christopher B. Kump and wife, Laura Ann, of Richmond, Va; two daughters, Betty Scott Spaulding of Chattanooga, Tenn., and Marcia Mitchell of Charlottesville, Va.; eight grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were two brothers and three sisters.
She graduated from high school in Washington, D.C., and was a graduate of Sonoma State College at Sonoma, Calif. She was a retired school teacher, having taught in Poquoson City School System and was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church at Poquoson, Va. She loved to dance, play bridge and visit with family.
A graveside service will be conducted Wednesday, July 24, at 2 p.m. in Beverly Cemetery at Beverly. The Rev. JoAnne Glaser will officiate, and interment will follow.
