D&E Artist-in-Residence Jack Gibbons performs the first in the series of piano concerts to a standing-room-only audience Sunday at Halliehurst. The Beethoven concert resulted in a standing ovation with an extraordinary Charles-Valentin Alkan encore. Gibbons’ second concert will be Sunday at 2 p.m. and will feature the music of Frederic Chopin and Alkan (for his bicentenary year). On Sunday, Aug. 4 at 2 p.m., the final concert in the series will take place with “A Piano Party” featuring music by Gershwin (recreations of his virtuoso show tunes improvisations), Alkan and Gibbons (including his “Waltz on a Musical Box”). The concert is free and open to the public.
