Brenda Kay Koerner, 56, a resident of Helvetia, passed away Sunday morning, July 28, 2013. She had been in her usual health and her death was unexpected.
She was born Sept. 18, 1956, in Elkins, a daughter of Rev. Ralph Summerfield of Mill Creek and the late Olive Daniels Summerfield. On Dec. 10, 1978, she was married to Chesley Koerner, who survives at Helvetia. Also surviving is one son, Daniel Koerner and wife, Jessica, of Rock Cave; a daughter, Lisa Koerner Perry and husband, Chris, of Columbus, Ohio; and three brothers, Gary, Randy and Roger Summerfield, all of Blue Rock; and a special friend, Leah Bryant.
Also preceding her in death was one brother, Michael Summerfield on July 4, 2013. Brenda was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School and was salutatorian of the class of 1974. She was a homemaker, a member of the Good Hope Tabernacle of Buckhannon and served as secretary of the Pickens Cemetery Association. She was a wonderful wife and mother and a helper to anyone who needed her.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m, Tuesday, July 30, 2013, at the Good Hope Tabernacle in Buckhannon. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 31, at the church with Pastor Holly Hoover officiating. Interment will follow in the Blue Rock Cemetery.
