Elkins Post 29 players meet on the mound during the Area 5 title game against Buckhannon on Friday. Post 29 will face Romney at noon on Wednesday in state tournament action at Hawley Field in Morgantown.
Post 29 enters the tournament with a 25-19 record and defeated Buckhannon to capture the Area 5 title.
"We're playing our best baseball right now," Elkins general manager Chris George said. "We haven't lost since July 14 because we've been hitting the ball better with runners in scoring position.
"We'll need that to continue in the state tournament. We'll have to play good defense and continue to get the strong pitching we've had this year."
Brennan Dettinger tops Post 29 in hitting with a .392 average. Colby Gainer (.385) and Cody?Gainer (.348) also are hitting over .300.
Colby Gainer leads the squad with 42 RBIs, while Cody Gainer has smacked a team-high four homers.
The pitching staff is anchored by Cody Gainer (4-0, 2.67 ERA), Colby Gainer (5-2, 3.38), Brandon Hamons (6-5, 4.12) and Issac Riggleman (1-3, 4.23). Dettinger serves as the team's closer and has recorded four saves.
"It should be a very competitive tournament," George said. "I don't think there's really a team you can look at as the clear-cut favorite.
"The key for us will be staying mentally focused each game. If we can to that, I think we have a chance to do pretty well."
