Devetta Ellen Chambers Nestor, 77, a resident of Parsons, departed this life early Thursday morning, Aug. 8, 2013, at Granville Manor at Parsons, with her family by her side. She had been in declining health for the past four years.
She was born Thursday, July 23, 1936, in Hambleton, a daughter of the late Robert and Esther Chambers Watkins.
She was a graduate of Parsons High School with the Class of 1954. On Dec. 23, 1953, at Elkins, she married her high school sweetheart, Terrence Blake Nestor, who survives. They had celebrated 59 years of marriage.
Left to cherish Devetta's memory is one son, Jeffrey David Nestor and wife, Lisa, of Charleston; one daughter, Christie Cheryl Cook and husband, Stephen, of Franklin, Ky.; one brother-in-law, Ray Moore Jr., of Tunnelton; four grandchildren, Stephanie, Brian, Terrin and Chase; and two great-grandchildren, Erika and Kennedy.
Preceding her in death were two sisters, Madonna Jean Plum and Jacqueline Kay Moore.
She was a dedicated military wife, moving her family many times and making homes for them in far-flung places around the country and world, including New Mexico, Tennessee, Ohio, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Texas and Germany. She was an excellent bowler and participated in the Parsons Women's League for many years. A skilled artisan of knit products and an accomplished artist in oil, she also was a professional beautician working for the former Mary Ellen's Beauty Shoppe.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Monday from 5:30-8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Tuesday, Aug. 13, 2013, at 1:30 p.m. Pastor Allen D. Crosten will officiate, and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery in Parsons.
