Randolph County riding club’s endurance race a success

August 15, 2013

The seventh annual Ride between the Rivers Endurance Race was a big success.

On Aug. 3, the Randolph County Regional Riding Club hosted 70 riders for a nationally sanctioned 30- and 50-mile endurance race in Ellamore. The event has earned a reputation as one of the best in the country for challenging trails, beautiful scenery and most importantly, the spectacular volunteers. Each year, event organizers receive numerous accolades about the hospitality and professional management of the event.

The Randolph County Regional Riding Club was founded in 2002 by a group of local horse enthusiasts. The organization now boasts a membership of 75 equestrians with interests from trail riding to showing. The club organizes several events each year, including trail rides, overnight pack trips and competitions.

Equestrians prepare to ride in the seventh annual Ride between the Rivers Endurance Race, which took place Aug. 3 in Ellamore.

Funds raised from these events are used to promote other equestrian events and support other groups such as 4-H.

Since its founding, the RCRRC has donated over $15,000 to the local community, individuals and families in need, and youth scholarships to equine-related activities. In addition, the RCRRC serves as the Randolph County chapter of the Backcountry Horsemen's Association. The BCHA is a national organization committed to preserving equine access to public lands. The RCRRC members have participated in many hours of trail maintenance and campsite improvements as part of this mission.

The Ride Between the Rivers Endurance Race could not be such as successful without each and every volunteer and sponsor that supports the event, including Wilford and Gayle Lothes John and Deb Moss, Mike Ross, Elkins Distributing, Tygart Valley Sanitation, Lynn Phillips, Dundee Lumber, Allegheny Equine Veterinary Service, Ken Hass, Kevin Wiseman, Conway Howell, Mountain Khakis and Running Bear Track.
