Celebrate Local! dinner series continues Sunday

August 15, 2013
The Inter-Mountain

Jay Mahoney, West Virginia American Culinary Federation's Chef of the Year for 2010 and 2012, is the featured chef for Adaland Mansion's Sunday Celebrate Local! dinner. This dinner is the third of five in the summer series hosted by Adaland Mansion in Philippi. Adaland is partnering with the Barbour County Community Garden Market and the Appalachian Farm and Research Center.

Mahoney will be serving a luscious summertime dinner featuring local and regional produce and meats. Mahoney's menu, designed especially for Adaland's dinner series, will begin with chilled tomato saffron soup with shellfish and proceed to a crimson lentil and grain salad featuring grilled eggplant, walnuts, roasted pepper coulis and flaxseed cracker. The entree will be Gardner Farm chicken and rabbit ballotine with spinach, sun-dried tomato feta, pancetta and grilled polenta. All this will be topped off with a dessert of cinnamon almond cake served with fresh berry compote and Grand Marnier sorbet, coffee and Adaland's signature iced peach tea.

Mahoney is the CEC culinary coordinator at Pierpont Culinary Academy of Pierpont Community and Technical College in Fairmont. Two of his students, Pam Stevens and Ted Hastings, will assist him with the meal preparation and serving. Mahoney's culinary skills have drawn rave reviews from diners throughout the state, and this special meal promises to add to the rave reviews this award-winning chef has amassed.

Executive Chef Jay R. Mahoney will bring his culinary magic to the region when he visits Adaland Mansion Sunday for the Celebrate Local! dinner series.

Adaland Mansion has partnered with the Barbour County Community Garden Market and the Appalachian Farm and Research Center to offer area and regional diners five opportunities to celebrate local produce, meats, breads and the extraordinary area chefs who prepare these foods. Each chef was chosen to participate in this series for his/her well-known skills of preparing local foods in a distinctive manner.

"We have had two very exciting yet distinctively different chefs with us so far this season. Mahoney now joins our previous guest chefs and our upcoming chefs in bringing to our area foods that will be remembered for their delicious tastes and chefs who will be remembered for their unique food preparations," said an Adaland spokesperson.

Reservations for the Celebrate Local! dinner on Sunday at either 1 p.m. or 3 p.m. may be made for $25 per ticket by calling 304-457-2415. Diners are invited to carry in their own wine for dinner.
