Kids set to return to school

Round and About Barbour County

August 17, 2013
By Sara Harris

Hello from Barbour County! Summer has come to a close, and it's now time for kids and teachers to go back to school. School in Barbour County begins on Aug. 22. Sports practices have already begun, and things are well underway to a good start to the school year.

Congratulations and good luck to Mike Ferguson, who is beginning his new job as principal at Belington Middle School.

The Weaver Church of the Nazarene will be having a homecoming Sunday at 10:30 a.m. There will be special singing, and the meal will start around noon.

The Barbour County Fair kicks off Aug. 24, beginning with a 5K run at 7:30 a.m. This is just the start of a week of fun-filled excitement.

Good luck to Russ Stover, who has an ambition of re-opening the Philippi Grand Theater. Back in "the day," this was the place to be for a good time. He has a dream of making it a functioning theater and movie house like it was in the 1930s, '40s and '50s. If you would like to help with this project, contact Mr. Stover at 304-621-0313.

Sept. 14 will be the Belington Fire Department's Annual Fall Bash. See any firefighter for tickets or call 304-823-1234. They have some nice prizes again this year, but even if you don't win anything, you are still supporting a great group of people who sometimes put their lives on the line to help us all.

Looking ahead, the Belington Public Library will be participating in the 5K Run/2K Walk in Tucker County's 2013 Run For It race. There will be a $10 registration fee. Mark your calendars to come out and support our local library.

If you have any Barbour County news that you would like to see in The Inter-Mountain, please contact me at 304-823-2539. I love hearing from you!

Until next time, remember, "A hundred years from now it will not matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove...but the world may be different because I was important in the life of a child."

I hope everyone has a great school year!
